So today was my first day back to routine from the Training road trip. Needless to say, I am still puffed up from Day 230’s cheat. ugh! But I’m not going to dwell on my stupid actions. What is done is done, I’m moving on… I will consider it my last unclean celebratory meal. Since I’ve decided to give Paleo a try to shake my current diet up a bit.
I’ve been feeling like I needed a change in foods to support my high intensity workouts. Yes, I was following the meal plan for the LF Training Program, but it just was not working out for me. It was just WAY too much food than I can consume on a daily basis. It left me feeling beyond full, cramped and bloated by the end of each day, not including counting the gains that accompanied the cramped bloating. Sometimes if a meal plan doesn’t work out for you, it just doesn’t. Everyone’s body is different, you have to fine tune accordingly. So I had switched back to clean eating as I had done in the beginning…but now I’m fine tuning that part toward Paleo.
Today was my first day of progression to Paleo eating. It isn’t much different than my usual clean diet except the fact that there is no grains, legumes, no sugar, no dairy (exception of probiotics such as yogurt + raw, full-fat or fermented dairy) and limited amounts of fruit + nuts.
I don’t really have a problem cutting out dairy. I don’t drink milk as I have said before since it seriously upsets my stomach. I will miss all the low-fat cheeses that I love however I am happy that I will still have yogurts and goat cheese in my life. I did get used to eating alternative clean grains - such as sprouted grains, spelt, etc. and seed crackers ( I will miss those). However I think my weakness will be fruit… Fruit has became my new ‘sweet tooth’ satisfier. It is my new chocolate. I am going to have a hard time limiting my fruit amounts.
With that said… there IS an even trade off… I will get to incorporate other foods back into my life that I did cut out - like pork, beef (grass-fed only) and lastly, most excitedly - I get to have BACON!!!!!! YES!!!! I get to have glorious BACON on Paleo!!!! God Blessed All!!!! AMEN!!!!! i am seriously one happy girl. Take the breads, cheeses and beans! Pass the Bacon Please!!!
Anyway, I really didn’t notice much of a difference except that I did miss my lunch time crackers and also the large amounts of fruit I would typically consume throughout the day to satisfy my ‘sweet tooth’. I did notice that I sustained a longer lasting feeling of fullness (but not crampy full) throughout the day which was nice.
I am interested to see how this slightly new way of eating is going to go and how it is going to sustain me throughout my workouts as well as lean me out. All the Crossfitters swear by the Paleo diet. And have you seen the hard core X-fitters, those warriors are ripped!!! So I’m willing to hear the X’fitters out, tap into my inner cavewoman and give it a try…
